Good Day MRL,
Ladies and gentlemen, socks and sockettes of all denominations, after what feels like an eternity waiting for the dryer buzzer to sound, MRL is back for Season 7! Sockmire can hardly contain himself… mostly because containment has never really been his strong suit. The drama will be richer, the stakes heavier, and Sockmire’s beloved Laundry Pile continues to grow into a beautifully chaotic monument to opportunity.
And today, Sockmire wishes to emphasize that growth. Because with a new season comes a new truth: no spot is ever truly safe once the Laundry Pile starts climbing.
Now some might argue that the Pro scene is gatekept — protected by secret knowledge, old reputations, and the mystical belief that incumbency equals inevitability. Sockmire rejects such thinking outright. In fact, today Sockmire is issuing a preemptive welcome to the Laundry Pile for a select group of Pro performers, and a friendly reminder that the highest stage is not owned — it is rented… and the lease is up for review every single season.
So to the Laundry Pile players who used the offseason wisely — refining their craft, sharpening their instincts, and perhaps even glancing reverently upon The Season 6 Sockmire Index— Sockmire sees you. Sockmire appreciates you. Sockmire may even have wagered a beverage or two on you.
The following observations are based on last season’s statistics and registered positions:
Striker
@ᴍᴏɪʀᴀɪ ˣ ᴋɪᴏ @ᴍᴏɪʀᴀɪ ˣ ᴋɪᴏ
Starts: 33
Sockmire Index: 57.29 (21st Overall)
To be fair, there were a number of Strikers who could have made this list. Although @thx jhit and @vKasis had a much lower index rating than Kio, a closer inspection would show they played more of a CAM role for their respective teams. Kio on the other hand didn't excel in either the assists or goals category, scoring only 23 goals, the lowest amount for any Pro player with at least 20 starts, despite playing a full 33 game season.
Sockmire does not pretend striking is easy — he once attempted to strike a match after three bourbons and nearly set fire to a laundry basket. But 33 starts is a luxurious amount of opportunity, and when the production fails to properly wrinkle the stat sheet, the Laundry Pile begins stretching its limbs.
A striker must score. That is the ancient law of the fabric.
Thirty-three meaningful games could very well be up for grabs.

CAM
Starts: 21
Sockmire Index: 51.74 (15th overall)
A very difficult position to isolate this season, as many CAMs drifted deeper into CDM-like responsibilities, leaving Sockmire momentarily unsure whether he was evaluating creators or part-time accountants of possession. Don’t believe Sockmire? The Position Change Calculator within the Sockmire Index offers a sobering look at how fluid these roles became.
But even with that context, Izz emerged as the logical selection due to modest returns on both ends of the pitch. Nine assists across 21 matches may not tell the entire story, but it does suggest that the creative faucet was not fully opened.
And when creativity slows, the Laundry Pile begins sketching new blueprints, especially when some of the strongest members of the Laundry Pile reside within the position.

CDM
Starts: 20
Sockmire Index: 40.80 (40th overall)
By far, CDM presented the clearest pathway for redistribution of starts. Even if evaluated as a Defender, Nagi would still rank 40th overall. And if you don’t believe Sockmire, the MRL ratings would tell a similar story.
Securing 20 starts on a struggling team — particularly one featuring strong defensive talent in both Academy and Development — raises questions that Sockmire would normally only ask after midnight and raises a blemish on @Ty :('s career as a manager, putting a player in a spot he obviously was not ready for and not paying closer attention to the plethora of defensive all stars that resided in his lower divisions.
Twenty starts is meaningful playing time. Meaningful playing time should ideally produce meaningful disruption, meaningful control, and meaningful comfort for one’s back line.

Defense
N/A
Call it a copout, call it strategic restraint, call it Sockmire exercising rare discipline — but only eight Pro defenders logged more than 20 starts last season. Sockmire refuses to manufacture controversy where none organically exists.
However, this situation reveals something fascinating:
A) A number of Pro players operated outside their natural positions
B) There is real opportunity for true defenders to establish themselves
Where specialists emerge, stability often follows.

Goalkeeper
Starts: 30
Sockmire Index: 61.61 (22nd overall)
Goalkeeper is a peculiar existence. One day you are invincible, the next day you are blamed for physics itself. Reputation often acts as a protective coating, but numbers still whisper truths.
Many would call Sockmire mad — and history would support that claim — but @ʟᴜᴍɴ x ᴛwʀᴛʟᴇ ⋆ was very close to receiving this nod as well, ranking lower in the Sockmire Index than conventional wisdom might suggest. Past success, however, carries weight heavier than a soaked bath towel.
Which leaves Karma, who recorded the 2nd lowest Defensive Possession Balance (DPB) among Pro keepers, behind only Twrtle. For those unfamiliar, DPB measures the relationship between interceptions and completed passes — because the modern keeper is not merely a shot stopper, but the opening act of attacking play.
A great keeper does not simply end danger.
He begins possibilities.

Managers preparing for next season, Sockmire hopes you take notice.
To the Laundry Pile players mentioned, congratulations on forcing your way into the conversation — but remember, in MRL nothing is permanent except Sockmire’s questionable metaphors.
To those Sockmire did not mention, keep grinding. Opportunities appear suddenly, unpredictably, and often when least expected.
And to those Pros who Sockmire did mention, a friendly welcome to the Laundry Pile.
Season 7 approaches.
The Laundry Pile grows restless.
The cycle continues.
Until next time…..I’m just a sock. 🧦

Good Day MRL, Now this sock had a whole different article lined up for today—polished, pressed, maybe even wrinkle-free for once—but alas, the laundry machine of fate had other plans. In light of this morning’s announcement, Sockmire finds himself once again…
